Incorporated in 1974, Afton is an amalgamation of the following rural communities:
Cumberland, Fairview, New Dominion, Nine Mile Creek, Rice Point and Rocky Point.

Afton Community Centre was first constructed on the New Dominion site in 1897 when
the MacEwen family donated the centre's property. Following in the tradition of
earlier family members, the MacEwen family donated additional property for the
construction of the Afton Community Centre pictured above.

The new centre's construction began in 1989 and the centre has acted as an active focal point in the community since 1990.

The centre boasts ample parking, wheelchair accessibility, a well-stocked kitchen and bar facilities; as well as, an outdoor skating rink. Located on Route 19, the building houses the functions of the Afton Senior's Club,
Afton Dart League, the Women's Institute and the Afton Computer Resource Club.
