Murray Harbour, Rail Head Park
New park, opened Oct. 1, 2005 ...The completion of the Murray Harbour branch line and the Hillsborough Bridge provided an east link for southern Queens and Kings counties to Charlottetown. Murray Harbour station was built on a curve near the end of the line. In the extreme right of the photo the engine house can be seen. For this photo (probably taken from the top of a rail car) the train crew have posed with local residents.

This new development is located at the site of the former train station in Murray Harbour, which opened in 1905 and was the end of the line of the Island's railway to the east.
The project involved the construction of an Interpretation Centre in the form of a roundhouse, as well as a new bridge look-out to view the south River and Harbour area. The Confederation Trail has been extended along the former Murray Harbour line to the edge of the South River, the last branch of former rail line on the Island to be developed into a biking and walking trail.
This plaque was made in honor of my father (A. Byron Burns) & Grandfather (Arthur M. Burns)... is placed in the Interpretation Centre
