Community Access Program (CAP)
The Community Access Program (CAP) is an Industry Canada initiative developed to help provide Canadians with affordable public access to the Internet and the skills to use it effectively. Under CAP, public sites such as schools, libraries and community centres act as access points to the Information Highway and provide support to Islanders on how to make the best use of the Internet.

Kings County Job Shadow Program
The Kings County Job Shadow Program is currently funded by Service Canada, providing youth, ages 15 thru 30, with an opportunity to improve and enhance their life, social and employment skills through a variety of workshops and work experience.

Youth Outreach Program
The Outreach program is designed to assist youth age 15-30, in Queens and Kings Counties who are facing barriers to employment discover their future potential and create a plan to succeed. Participants are between the ages of 15-30, are out of school, not on employment insurance but are looking for work and are thinking about their future.

Kings County Childcare Database
This is an online childcare database which connects parents with childcare providers. Parents have the opportunity to look for long term and short term childcare in the comfort of their home. Whether you are looking for a student to babysit for an evening or a long term childcare provider, potential childcare information is at your fingertips!
This database allows childcare providers to advertise their services; childcare providers can log onto the site, obtain a secure password and enter their individual online profile. Features are provided so that childcare providers can change or delete their profiles at any given time. Enter your information today!

Storysacks
The Centre has also recently completed a project called Storysacks which was funded by the National Literacy Secretariat, Human Resource Development Canada. This project involved working with community groups and volunteers in order to create a Storysacks Library. This library will be available for to the general public through the Morell Learning Centre to use as a fun and educational literacy tool for parents, children's groups and schools.

Morell High Alumni Site
This site was developed to honor the history as well as the past graduates and faculty of Morell Regional High School. Not only does this site allow past graduates to enter their own information, but it also allows them to check up on their fellow class mates to see what they are doing now.

Morell Matters
The Morell Matters, published by the Morell Learning Centre, reaches 475-585 households in the Morell mailing district each month. This is a great opportunity to inform local residents as well as tourists about your business, events and services.

Online Boaters Exam
This course is offered online at the Learning Centre. BoaterExam.com is a federally incorporated privately held company established in January 2000. BoaterExam.com, in partnership with FNCC, is the number one safe boating course provider in Canada, having issued more Pleasure Craft Operator cards and educated more boaters than any other accredited course provider.

St. John Ambulance Babysitter Course
This computer based course teaches children what every babysitter should know including preparation for their first babysitting job, skills to build self confidence, a focus on keeping children safe and happy, practical exercises to deal with common household emergencies.


Past Programs


Jack and Jill Reading Club
The Jack & Jill Reading Club is funded by the National Literacy Secretariat. This reading club currently runs every Saturday morning 10-12 and is for children aged 1-5 and their family members. The program runs until August 2006.

Summer Day Camp Program
Over the past six years the Learning Centre has held a summer day camp for children between grade 1 and grade 8. The program runs for six weeks in the summer and is filled with various fun activities including, crafts, sports, music and outdoor activities.

Broadband
The Centre has completed the final stages of the Broadband for Rural and Northern Development Project. This project has brought high-speed Internet service to the communities of Morell, Mt. Stewart, Scotchfort, and St. Peter’s. We intend to develop many new programs in order to fully utilize the capabilities of this new service.

SeniorsNet
The Centre sponsored this program from 2003-2005. This program offers two 90 minute one-on-one training sessions with a qualified tutor, seniors learn basic computer skills in easy to understand terms such as:
  • Turning on/off a computer
  • Printing and saving files
  • How to use and navigate the mouse
Seniors have the option of receiving training in their homes on their own computer or at one of the CAP sites within Prince Edward Island. Sessions cost $ 5.00 and are 90 minutes long.

Learn to Read
The Learning Centre has also recently completed a "Learn to Read" literacy campaign. This project was a one-year marketing campaign funded by the National Literacy Secretariat, Human Resource Development Canada and was aimed at promoting literacy and the various services offered through the Learning Centre.

Youth of the Digital Age
Youth of the Digital Age is a well established successful program, which provides youth with technical experience and guidance in a fun and informative environment. Technology PEI, in partnership with the Morell Region Community Learning Centre and CAP site, has been able to offer this program over the past number of years at no cost to participants. The Centre hopes to continue to offer this program in the future.

After School Children’s Program
The Learning Centre has held and hopes to continue to hold an After School Children’s Program. The Program runs between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm and includes activities such as homework, computer time, sports, as well as many other activities.

Adult Education
From its existence until 2005 the Learning Centre sponsored the Adult Education Program through Holland College Adult and Community Education Program. Students have entered the Morell program and have made great strides in pursuing their personal goals. Students have received:
  • GED;
  • Academic high school diplomas;
  • High school credit courses;
  • Completion of college programs
  • University degrees, and
  • Provincial and national literacy awards;
